PERB has scheduled the new election for the Fall semester!
Here's the important information from the signed agreement:
"All eligible voters shall vote by mailed ballot. On Monday, October 9, 2023, PERB will mail a ballot to the last known home address (or Post Office Box address) of each eligible voter. Along with the ballot, the eligible voter will also receive a Secret Ballot Envelope, a postage-paid return envelope addressed to PERB, and instructions for casting the ballot. Ballots must be received by PERB not later than Monday, November 13, 2023, in order to be counted in the official tally of ballots.
Employees will be informed by the Notices of Election of the procedure for requesting a duplicate ballot. If employees believe they are eligible to vote in the election and they do not receive a ballot by Monday, October 23, 2023, they may contact PERB and request a duplicate ballot. The telephone number will be displayed on the Notices of Election. PERB will accept employee telephone requests for duplicate ballots beginning on 8:30 a.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023, and ending at 4:00 p.m., on Wednesday, October 25, 2023."
Please make sure your home address is current with HR, and don't forget to return your ballot as soon as possible after you receive it on October 9th!

PCCFA NEGOTIATES WORSE HEALTHCARE AT HIGHER COST
Due to a new law, AB 190, secured by California Federation of Teachers (CFT) members in 2022 that provides a $200 million annual funding stream dedicated to providing part-time faculty healthcare, community college faculty unions can bargain to include part-time faculty at .4 and above in the same health insurance plans as full-time faculty, and districts can get reimbursed at up to 100% of the cost by the state. Unfortunately, the recent Pasadena City College Faculty Association (PCCFA) agreement falls short of current standards and fails to make full use of AB 190 funds. This results in both Pasadena City College (PCC) and its faculty paying more money for worse healthcare. Meanwhile, many CFT local unions across the state have already successfully negotiated full healthcare equality for part-time faculty in over 12 districts (and more are on the way) employing over 10,000 part-time faculty – about 1/3 of all part-timers in California! The CFT represented districts in Southern California include: Los Angeles, North Orange County, Citrus, Palomar, San Diego and Grossmont-Cuyamaca.
Under AB 190, districts who meet four healthcare conditions – by offering affordable, quality and accessible plans to part-timers and freeway flyers – will be reimbursed up to 100% of their cost, while districts who fall short of these conditions will only be reimbursed at a 50% rate. Because the PCCFA agreement does not meet the current requirements as it only partially covers the cost of insurance, covers the employee only and does not cover the employees' spouses, partners or dependents, the district will only be reimbursed at the 50% rate. On the other hand, if PCCFA had fought for CFT’s platform and won an agreement offering the same plans at the same costs that full-timers get, the state would have reimbursed PCC for up to 100% of the entire cost. Instead, by falling short of these conditions and receiving only 50% reimbursement, faculty and their families are stuck with the healthcare bill instead of the cost being covered up to 100% by AB 190.
We believe that healthcare coverage is not only an employment right but a human right. That’s why we will continue to advocate for a strong democratic, transparent and representative union affiliated with the CFT so that we can collectively work to better the lives of ALL faculty.
Vote YES to join the CFT so we get the support and expertise we need to take full advantage of opportunities like this in the future!
